So welcome to Thursday.. This morning I went to work in jeans just thinking we might have a few showers.. Boy was I wrong.. I walked in and there were a few storms to the south west and I figured they would be going west and pass to our south. They decided a different path and ignored my mental suggestion. They decided to speed up to 60mph and pack winds up to 90 into the southwest side of the metro. Once they upgraded the thunderstorm warning to include 90mph winds the tornado sirens in the metro went off alerting everyone that there were devastating winds moving in and to head to your safe place. The storms moved thru and the city was a big fireworks show with all of the power transformers blowing up as the wind moved across town. After about 20 minutes of intense wind for the metro over 40k of people were without power and full grown trees uprooted, roofs blown off and trashcans blocks away from where they started. Once we got some daylight we saw what we really had and after getting skynews 6 up in the air did the “spotty damage” become a tornado path that crossed most of the city doing damage here, there and random spots but all in a pretty much straight line across time. It had no real rhyme or reason to its path and where damage was located. I had a few chasers out in the metro and had a great response from our great team of photogs, reporters and staff to responding to the damage. Travis (boss) showed up willing to help and I was quick to get him out of my hair by suggesting he go fly in SkyNews 6. My hidden agenda was to get him out of my hair so I could do what I do best and thats severe weather coverage. Having our chief in the bird turned out to be a great asset to our show today. I finally got home about 2 o’clock from a 11hr shift. Showers and T-storms still dot the region and Arkansas now has our tornado warnings but this morning is a good reason why we say tornadoes can and do occur with severe thunderstorms without warning. The city and NWS had a great plan in place just for this type of event. I only know of 1 person hurt from this mornings storms.

Wow.. what a rant.. I guess I’m still amazed at what we did as a team this morning and how well the pieces fell into place.  THIS IS WHY WE ARE NUMBER #1.

I had a large french fry today on the way home. I wasn’t expecting to be able to eat solid food but it seems I’m on a limited soft food diet and can tolerate a bit of discomfort while eating. I was pissed off at Braums because they charged my card $3.25 to much and rather than correcting the issue electronically they just gave me $3.25 in cash. I’m not much of an asshole but I still paid 3 cents more than I should have because they didn’t give me my tax back. I guess this not eating today before then was a bit irritating and we had no A/C in the office the last part of the morning and studio lights cranked up big and bright.

I didn’t hide the braces today but noone mentioned them whatsoever so they are being nice or didn’t notice them. We were a bit busy though. It’s 6 and I’m going to bed. Need to relax. Night night

Morning its day 2 of braces and I spoke with a friends husband whom had them just taken off and he referred to his few days after install as being hit in the face with a baseball bat. I have to say softball bat is more of my feeling. It is weird how 1 little tooth colored wire can do so much pain but already open a pretty big gap in my teeth and allow my tilted tooth to start un-tilting. The pain yesterday was mild if not just a discomfort but overnight it got painful when I slept on my side my cheeks didn’t like the hardware inside. I have a few pain pills (good stuff) leftover from my oral surgery and took one of those and I slept like a baby. I can’t eat solid foods so I had a scrambled egg for breakfast and mashed it off the roof of my mouth. Its amazing how much shit gets caught up in these railroad tracks. I tried to clear some of it with my tongue but the pebbles on my teeth are shredding it pretty good. Last night at Cirque (which was great) I ran into a friend from a radio station and he never said anything of my braces and he’s the type that would if he noticed them. So I go back to work in the morning and can’t wait to see what happens with co-workers. I might goto the gym today so I don’t slack to much I’ve not been since umm Thursday.

So jump ahead to 5pm and I just ate toast with mac & cheese with no problems. *knock on wood* if I keep up the pressure on my teeth I should be able to eat some. I’m still prepared for a liquid diet if needed. I mowed the yard rather than going to the gym today and I’m going to regret not mowing the back yard I can tell you now. I am pondering going to church tonight but were due some severe weather tonight after 1am so that would put it on my on-call times to be in earlier than my normal 2:30. I guess I’m going to have to make some slimfast milkshakes because I can drink those at work without having to run to the bathroom and brush the crap out of the tracks. So for today other than hurting + lortabs + mowing + dinner its been fairly uneventful. We shall have the emotional day tomorrow to see who notices first and how long it takes before the whole newsroom knows. I give it about 2 hours.

Starting with a dentist visit a few months ago I was informed that I had a crowing issue on my lower teeth. I also noticed several comments on my Facebook about me not smiling with my teeth showing and I realized  that I had a problem with my smile. I consulted a few orthodontists and got several opinions and prices. I had prices as high as 6k and as low as 4k. I have a old friend that I used to live across the hall from and she worked for a orthodontist and he happened to be one of them I selected by chance. I decided to choose the middle orthodontist which was also the one Carly works for. I have been getting xrays/molds and such done over the last month or so and had an appointment to get my braces about a month ago but they changed it on me. Hence the very pissed off at the world posts. Well today I went and had my upper arch installed and am now sporting a snazzy grill. I decided to choose clear brackets for a few reasons. (a) less noticeable to the visible eye. (b) I can smile in pics and they don’t show up ;). The ordeal with getting them installed was rather simple and after 10-15 minutes I had a nice railroad track on my upper toofers. I have always known I needed braces but never had the balls or funds to get them. I really don’t have the funds however I got the nerve up after the facebook posts pointed out a major flaw to my thinking.  Now you know whats up with the “project” however no one at work knows so if you work with me please no telling I want to see how people notice on their own.

Today is Tuesday, May 11, the 131st day of 2010. Today is part 1 of the project and 234 days left in the year.

Morning fokes. I got a whopping 5hrs of sleep since I got home about 1am. I tried my damnedest to nap yesterday but never did so now I am awake and nervous about the 9am appointment. Today is the 1st “installment” of my project that should last about 2 years and cost me an assload of money. I was planning to work until 8 then drive there but it seems being off because Mike came back in and covered my shift now I’m really nervous because I have time on my hands. Oh lastnight I came home to a non-working garage door. You have any idea how hard it is to get into a locked house without power to a garage door?.. REALLY DAMN HARD. I almost resorted to smashing out the window on my screen to get to the front door. Ever since someone kicked in the door earlier this year I’ve been only using the garage to get in since its remote and no handles or locks. Its a great plan until you lose power to the garage =). Well I have to go throw my head under a faucet and take some pain pills so I’ll tolerate the 1st installment. Oh yea forgot I’m taking my mom to cirque du soleil tonight and I’m off tomorrow morning. I’m supposta be off all day but the threat of more severe weather has me on-call regardless of my having approved time off.. I love spring in Oklahoma.

I went and took care of my “project” which you can now read about in the next post. I am a bit sore and my lips keep getting caught on them. I went and got my hair cut mega short for the summer. I normally only get this cut once a year just to get it out of my system =). I have cirque tonight with mom and I hope I’m not as sore for that. I want to enjoy the show.

Today is Monday, May 10, the 130th day of 2010. There is 1 day until part 1 of the project and 235 days left in the year.

Wow today looks to be a busy day ahead. I’ve got my morning show and I’m pretty sure my 2:30 conf call is cxled because I’m one of the key players and I plan on being in bed around 1:30 till maybe 3 or 4. If you look at the map  below it shows the likelihood of a tornado in a sq mile. You can see that we are well covered with a nice fat 30$%. This is the highest level of advisory the Storms Predictions Center can issue. I dunno if I’ll be in-house or out chasing with Alan. I hope I’m in-house so I don’t have to drive all night. I can handle a few big tornadoes in the office =) Been there/done that many times. I had a nice long post typed out but some reason it went poof. The way it is looking to shape out I’ll get a few hours before my morning shift so be dead dog tired after the procedure.

So Whatsup after a nice 26hr shift I was able to come home thanks to Mike covering my morning shift. Tonight was busy we started on-air about 3:45 and didn’t stop until about 10:59 covering 26 tornadoes in the state and 39 in the plains. I wish I could say it was boring but we really kicked ass with coverage and had great video from all of our assets in the field. I am proud to be working and have so much from a top notch staff. I hate to toot my own horn but I’m gonna. Between Myself, Alan, Tom, Dick, Trav and Mike we have gotten this down pat. Information flow with little or no time to chat off-air and making sure everything flows on-air was sweet.  Ok enough for that..

Happy Sunday, I woke up about 6:45 a whole hour early but nothing like last week where I woke up a whopping 3 hours early. I went to church with Cassie and for a 2nd week in a row the mystery girl has been MIA. So now she really is a mystery eh? Church was a non-event and I came home to relax before joining my mother, aunt and cousin in Owasso for hot dogs =) I love my cousin but OMG he can get into tech talk and I get lost when he starts in with routers and routes etc. I can understand the wide concept but when he gets into the nitty gritty I just get lost. Pat is good at what he does and seems after yeasr still enjoys it. I’ve almost made my final choice on the project so that a bit of a relief. Looking at my e-mail this evening I notice its about to be a hellish 72 hours and I need to goto bed and sleep. Hold tight heres my schedule. Monday 2a-12p 1:30p-Sometime before Midnight. Tuesday Morning when I get there to 8a then leave for the doctors office for part 1. I’m off Wednesday unless all hell breaks loose. I should post in the morning before the proverbial shit hits the fan.

Ever have that feeling you did way to much way to fast? I woke up wide awake at 6am and headed out to Walmart to do some quick shopping and got some supplies for the project and had a strawberry slush from Sonic. YUMMY.. I tried to take a nap about 11-4 but never happened I laied there just counting sheep and then listening to dominoe hissing anc chasing the birds away. Well this evening I went to ONEOk field (our brand new ball park) to watch the Drillers get the poo kicked out of them. I have a friend that turned a older age last week and had a group of friends gather in the grass on the 3rd base line and we had a good time. I bailed about the 8th inning and just as I left they had a ball hit about 4ft from where I was sitting.. DAMNIT.. Anyway I came home and worked on a few things before turning in about 10.

Today is Friday, May 7, the 127th day of 2010. There are 4 days until Part 1 of project and 238 days left in the year.

Morning!.. This is what we call a RED Friday at work because we alternate red and green for pay week and no pay. This morning I drove the speed limit as I was passed by every car. Typically I’m the one doing the passing. I got to work and realized I forgot to get food.. NO BUENO!. I snuck out and grabbed BK when I got my basic graphics load in. I was able to make it back with no problem. Caught up on a ton of TV today and went to bed early thinking I’d get u and go out with Evin but when I got up I ate some bb and returned to bed.. thats my Friday

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Zoo keepers in Washington state soon expect to hear the patter of little tiger paws. An endangered Sumatran tiger is expecting at the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma. She’ll probably give birth to at least two cubs later this month. Curator Karen Goodrowe Beck says the zoo is preparing for a 24-hour watch. It we’ll go into effect several days before the May 22 due date. The father is Bali, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
